EAP -Portugal

Portugal Program

No international travel comes without its risks. Through preparation and preemptive planning, World Walker LLC accounts for potential extenuating circumstances and ensures both program participants and staff have a clear protocol to follow in the event of an emergency. The following Emergency Action Plan (EAP) details the steps students and staff should follow in the event of an emergency. This EAP is provided to students via the program handbook, with the capacity for live updates to respond on a case-by-case basis depending on the emergency situation.

I. Introduction

Prior to departure, all participants must submit their contact information, emergency contact information, and a photocopy of their passport to their program leads.

Participants are expected to familiarize themselves with the Emergency Action Plan protocol outlined below and save the name and phone number of their program Point of Contact and Program Leads, in addition to the emergency Portugal phone numbers, to their phones.

Students must remain reachable through the Portugal GroupMe communication channel throughout the duration of the program.

II. Pre-Departure Preparation

Ensure all emergency contacts are saved on your phone.

Keep a physical copy and digital copy of your passport and travel insurance information.

Familiarize yourself with the Emergency Meeting Points (EMP) listed below.

Ensure your phone is capable of international communication (data roaming or WiFi calling).

Understand and follow all local safety and security guidelines while in Portugal.

III. Emergency Response

Staff Response

In the event of an emergency, staff will contact participants via GroupMe, phone, or text message to confirm their safety and location.

Each staff member is responsible for confirming the safety and location of the students assigned to them.

Dr. Devin Walker will oversee the safety confirmation of approximately 15 students, and Jaylen Lee will oversee approximately 10 students.

Staff members will report the status of their students directly to the World Walker Program Director.

If a student cannot be located or contacted, additional steps will be determined by the Program Director on a case-by-case basis and may include contacting local authorities or the U.S. Embassy.

Student Response

While traveling in Portugal, participants are expected to maintain active communication with their program leads.

In the event of an emergency, students must respond to staff communication within one hour through the Portugal GroupMe or by direct phone contact to confirm their safety and location.

Students should turn on phone roaming if necessary to ensure communication access.

If a student cannot reach their assigned staff contact, they should contact the Trip Lead directly.

Student Points of Contact can be found in the Appendix of the program handbook.
